Born 1963 in Leeds, W. Yorkshire O’Reilly studied at the Jacob Kramer College of Art & Design and later went on to obtain his BA and MA from University of Wales Institute Cardiff, (1983-1989). O’Reilly has exhibited in Poland, Spain, Sweden, Germany, Croatia, the US, Israel and Wales before turning to full-time curating in 2001. From 1994 he launched the Site-ations International series of events organising many site-specific based projects with colleagues abroad notably in Cardiff, (1992-1994); New York (1999-2002); Lodz, Riga, Zaragoza, Cardiff, Sligo and Reykjavik (2002-2005).
In 2005 O’Reilly became the artistic director of Leitrim Sculpture Centre, a practice-based research centre for contemporary visual arts based in Manorhamilton, North County Leitrim. Since upgrading this facility in 2009 he has curated over 50 national and international residency projects and exhibitions at the Centre whilst developing collaborative practice within an expanded environmental and geographic field. O’Reilly obtained his PhD in 2015 from Cardiff Metropolitan University investigating landscape as a site-specific curatorial practice.
